The Connecting Rod
for the Naval Brass Vertical Engine

The above picture was taken before the crosshead guides were in place.
The connecting rod was machined from a solid chunk of steel.
Here the hacksaw is used to cut the rod free from the chucking piece.
The big end brasses are turned on the lathe. Actually they are made from 660 bearing bronze.
The waist is cut into the sides of the big end bearing brasses.
